M100 is a spiral galaxy locate in the constellation of Coma Berenices. It is one of the galaxies in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies and is approximately 55 million light years from Earth. If you look carefully in this black and white image you can see at least a dozen small galaxies in this field of view. The edge on galaxy just above M100 is NGC 4312, which was discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1787.
