This globular cluster of stars is located in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a distance of approximately 30,000 light years. In 1938 a super nova was photographed in this cluster but it was not discovered until a much later search of the photographic plates, in 1964. This cluster is easily seen in binoculars under dark skies.
